In 1975, the Santa Monica Zephyr Skate Team (better known as "Dogtown") competed in the Del Mar National Skateboard Competition.

Inspired by surfing and skateboarding "gymnastics" in a harder and more advanced style, things would never be the same again.

The Zephyr team, or Z-Boyz, quickly became a phenomenon in its own right.

While California was struggling with record droughts, forcing many residents to empty their pools. The Z-Boyz seized the opportunity and plunged into these new playgrounds, sneaking into the backyards of people to skate the pools as long as they could before getting fired ...

Jay Adams is the best example of this, not only as a first-generation Z-Boy, but also considered one of the best skateboarders of all time, due in large part to his aggressive and carefree style of attacking pools and streets.

In 1976, Kent Sherwood, Jay Adams' father-in-law, separated from Zephyr and launched EZ-RYDER with half of Zephyr's original skaters, including Jay Adams and Tony Alva.

6 months later, EZ-RYDER changed its name to Z-Flex.
