ESA: Evolution Street Attack

The ESA is the oldest still existing and continuing roller street event in Europe.

History...

Created in 2002 under the leadership of David Castan, Thomas Augereau, Salamech' and Alban of Montpellier riders, this competition generally falls within the dates of the FISE Montpellier.

Nothing to do with the FISE, but the successive organizers take advantage of the momentum of the FISE to have a maximum of pro and AM riders in Montpellier for the skatepark competitions and attract them to the street for the ESA.

In order not to harm the organization of the FISE, it is the day when the roller skating competitions are "on pause" at the FISE to give way to the other disciplines (skate/trot/bmx) that the ESA is held, in the street.

"Competition" is not the main thing during the ESA, the goal is rather to get together with friends, in the street, at the origins of roller street and enjoy the moment all together, in the South.

In previous years we have had some big name riders present like Nick Lomax, Mathias Silhan, William Cerlot, Nicolas Auroux, Victor Daum, Javi Garrido, Franky Morales, David Sizemore, Julien Cudot... the list is too long!

So it's on the street?

The spots vary every year, generally with 3 sports with increasingly committed levels. But still on the street!

The first spot is generally skateable by everyone, then it builds in a crescendo to arrive at the "final spot" which is often the most committed and ends up making a natural selection of the champion rider of the day.

In some years, we have even produced incredible spots; it can range from adding planks at the end of the rail, to a little masonry for perfect momentum... but personally I remember the creation of a double coping wooden curb on stairs of endless length ... right in Montpellier!

So when you have a strong team, a hint of motivation and a huge dose of passion, you can move mountains...

The ESA is:

A big bunch of riders moving around the city all together, a little noisy, sometimes drunk and smokey... but always friendly and full of joie de vivre; a megaphone to try to organize this happy mess, an improvised bar in a shopping cart, loyal sponsors who provide prizes for the most valiant riders and you have the perfect mix for a great day of skating!

Even when the rain comes to the event, unfortunately, the tricks are still there and the public too, so imagine when it's not raining... it's a hundred crazy enthusiasts who take over the street Montpellier.

And this year?

For 14 years that clic-n-roll has existed, we have supported this event and this year again, we will be there to support this unmissable "street gathering" among our neighbors in Hérault.

As I write this article, we don't yet have the list of spots (it's often a bit of a surprise about this event) but it's without doubt for a second that Thomas Riffaud (who has taken up the torch for a few years already) and his acolytes are going to concoct something crazy for us...

We already know that "construction site", "refreshment bar", "rescue/medics", "photo/video" and "sound/sono" teams are being set up...

There you go, I'm looking forward to it, I'm sure you are as much as I am now...
