Voie Verte Roller - Bellegarde/Beaucaire Gard (30)

Discovering the rollerblading greenway between Beaucaire and Bellegarde or vice versa with Bolton.

The Gard has many very pleasant greenways, this part of the VIA RHÔNA that I am presenting to you today extends between Tarascon and Saint-Gilles.

However, only part of it is perfectly paved and secure between Bellegarde and Beaucaire, the rest is on a shared road and I have not done it so I will only tell you about this part between Beaucaire and Bellegarde.

To park:

Personally, I chose to leave from Bellegarde, more precisely from the port of Bellegarde. In fact it is closer to my home and the port has a small free parking lot (and a camper van area) at the start of the tarmac and secure part of this piece of VIA RHÔNA. It's peaceful between the boats and the retirees who are in their camper vans.

If you leave from Beaucaire, you can find places around the port of Beaucaire and the start of the greenway is not far away, but it is the city center so parking is more complicated.

Rolling:

The greenway therefore extends in a straight line between the port of Bellegarde and the port of Beaucaire along the Rhône to Sète canal.

Once you have passed under the Bellegarde port bridge, you are directly on smooth, smooth bitumen. We quickly dive into the heart of the fields and nature without houses around, it's calm and pretty. This greenway is a long straight line which follows the Canal du Rhône à Sète, with a little luck you will come across boats which respond well to the “hellos” you give them. After about 5km we come across a lock, we are really right next to it and we can therefore closely observe how it works. With a little luck you will see her walking to pass a boat.

5 km further, after seeing a few bulls and horses, you arrive at a bridge (the only "climb" of the route is just to access the bridge, nothing difficult). At this level, you must change sides of the canal by crossing via the bridge.

You have 2.5km left to go to the port of Beaucaire.

You will pass alongside the Beaucaire cement factory, the one you can see from afar, before arriving at a very narrow passage under a bridge... I recommend that you signal yourself before starting to avoid a collision with another skater or a bike, it's really narrow.

You arrive there at the start of the port of Beaucaire. Personally I pushed a little further to reach the town and the big port of Beaucaire. Here you will find cafes and a bakery to possibly take a break before heading back.

With this roller course on a greenway, it's 12.5km out and the same amount on the return. So a 25km return trip, quite easy and accessible to all levels.

The Most and Less :

The Mosts :

  • The route is straight and smooth, it is maintained.
  • There are signs indicating distances at both ends of this greenway. So it’s perfect for rollerblading!
  • Several “rest areas” with benches are located along the route.
  • Parking is free and easy in Bellegarde.

The lessers :

  • There are no trash cans! Please return your waste.
  • The small narrow passage before arriving at Beaucaire is a little dangerous if you arrive quickly, just moderate your speed.
